This application will allow you to bring a topic and/or topics to the center of attention of all your users by adding it/them to the featured list at the board index. Topics added to the featured users list will appear in a random order. Every time that the forum page is refreshed a different topic will appear with a short preview and some other info. The forum permissions will be carried intact. Meaning if a group/s does not have permission to view the topics of a certain forum then the topic/s featured from that particular forum will now be shown to it/them. You can display the featured topics list at the top of your forum index, bottom or sidebar. You can also enable and disable the application, choose the group/s that you want to view the featured topics list and as last but not least you can also control the avatar size of the thread starters. Also all the actions of the admin in regard to the featured topics, (adding, editing and/or removing), will be logged to the admin log in the acp. Installation: To install the application, unzip the mod package and upload the contents of the admin folder inside your admin folder keeping the structure intact. Then go to your Admin Panel->Applications & Modules->Manage Applications & Modules and on the right side where it says: Applications Not Installed you will see a new application added called: Featured Topics. Click on the install button. To configure it go to the Other Apps tab then from the drop down list choose Featured Users and it will take you to the Application 's Management Area area where you can add featured users and set the settings. Under the Configuration Tab you can add topics to appear at the featured topics list and manage them. Then at the Settings Tab you can set the settings for the following options: 1) Enable/Disable the application. 2) Choose the position where you would like to display the featured topics block. At the top, bottom or sidebar. 3) Choose the group/s that you want to view the featured topics. 4) Choose the avatar size of the thread starters. Inspired by the post here and a few clients to turn this info into a hook. with this hook you will gain the ability to add a google plus account to your profile (among your entire community) and if they have published an article/blog/(also works for forum post)/etc on your domain, have it add rel=author tags to their usernames. There you can deside where you want the hook to appear, at the top and/or the bottom of the forum, choose the position where to display it, enter the title for the Top X Stats Box, set the number of stats that you would like to show and choose the group/s that you want to restrict from viewing the Top X Stats Box. Please note that this entry may be a little technical, if you do have any questions, please post them in the comments below. A little history IP.Board was first released over ten years ago when the web landscape was very different. A lot of emerging technologies were still trying to define new standards. Very early versions of IP.Board allowed one to specify the document character set and had a default of "ISO-8559-1" which is useful for languages that use latin based characters. This meant, for example, that if you needed Chinese characters you would need to change the character set to something more suitable. This disparity between character sets creates many challenges when working with a single code base. UTF-8 Over the past handful of years there has been a push towards a single document character set; UTF-8. UTF-8 is a variable-width encoding that is able to show every character in the Unicode character set. This makes it suitable for latin and Chinese characters (and many many more!). Popular Javascript libraries such as jQuery require that data is sent and received with UTF-8 and many native PHP string functions prefer UTF-8. The future is very much UTF-8 and trying to keep our codebase working with any other character set is going to be more and more challenging. IPS 4.0 Even though IP.Board 3 introduced UTF-8 as the default character set for new installations, we're aware that we still have many clients that are not using UTF-8 currently. IPS 4.0 is going to be strictly UTF-8 only which means we need to convert the data before or as part of the upgrade process. Converting to UTF-8 isn't as simple as changing the database encoding. Merely doing this will simply corrupt the data you have in your database. We need to be a little smarter and use a script to do this work for us. The great news is that even if you choose to convert your data to UTF-8 today, your IP.Board 3.x will run just fine and you may even find it more efficient as it doesn't have to convert lots of data on the fly. The IPS UTF-8 Database Converter We've written a script that can safely convert your database to UTF-8. The script does not overwrite your data until you manually confirm that the conversion process has been successful. This means that there is no risk of corrupting your existing data. Of course, it is good practice to perform a full MySQL back-up before making any changes to the database as a precaution and we recommend that you do this. You can download the converter and its instructions here. How can I tell if I need to convert my database? When you first run the converter, it'll check your database and let you know if you need to convert or not. Even if you are running UTF-8, you may not be using the correct collation (utf8_unicode_ci) so you have the option of changing your collation which is a very fast procedure and does not need a full conversion to complete. If you first used IP.Board with IP.Board 3.0 then you may only need to change your database table collation. This isn't a required step and the IPS 4 upgrade process will perform this task if you'd prefer to wait until IPS 4.0 is released. This is an addon which allows you to sell points to your members, in exchange for money. It works with basically any point system involving members (so it has to be used with a field in one of the three tables IPS uses for member information). there is also a built in points field, in case you want to simply use the one from this app separately. You must have Nexus installed for this to work. You can purchase and install this without Nexus, in case, for some reason, you want to install this one first, but this is all done via Nexus. When someone purchases points, it generates an invoice through Nexus and then, when the invoice is paid off, the points are transferred to their account. There are two ways to purchase points. You can use only one or the other, both, or neither (turn the system off). Custom - In the ACP, you enter how many points are received per dollar spent. A member then simply enters how many points he/she wants, and then the invoice is created for the amount they would cost, based on the rate from the ACP. Package - Create, edit, and delete packages in the ACP. You enter the exact number of points and the exact cost for the package. This way you could give discounts for larger totals being purchased, for example. It, of course, uses the default currency of your Nexus install. Dollars is just the default wording. Please note that the app does not allow undoing of the transactions, at this time. Someone can cancel an invoice, rather than pay it, but once the invoice is paid, it's final, under the current setup. This will have many new features, over time. This app has a separate tab. In the future I may integreate it, specifically with Simple Points, where you could do the same functionality within the Simple Points tab.
