Introduction

Linked Accounts allows your members to link one or more accounts then quickly switch between them.

You have a full range of options about which usergroups can use the Linked Accounts system and which usergroups cannot be linked to.

The Linked Accounts system could be useful for fan fiction forums, roleplaying forums, or just those of you with multiple accounts (e.g, Alan, Administrator, Forum News).

Installation

Installation couldn't be simpler, just upload the contents of the Upload folder to your forums directory via FTP.

Once uploaded successfully, you should find the following folder:

<your forums directory>/admin/applications_addon/other/linkedaccounts

Once you've uploaded the files and folders, login to your Admin CP and in the Manage Applications & Modules click Install next to the Linked Accounts application.

Setup

Once installed, you will need to click on (in your Admin CP):

My Apps -> Linked Accounts -> Settings

From here you will be able to specify which groups are allowed to use the Linked Accounts system.

You can also enable the lockout system. This prevents people from trying to "brute force" accounts by guessing their password over and over. If a member tries to link an account and is enters the password incorrectly a certain number of times (the default is 3 but you can change this in the settings) it will block them from using the Linked Accounts system for a period of time you can specify (default is 15 minutes). This will prevent them from linking / unlinking accounts and from using the Switch Account menu.

Management

Also in the Linked Accounts section of the Admin CP, you can click on the Manage Linked Accounts option to view all linked accounts on your forum. You can also unlink any linked accounts from here if you wish.

Using Linked Accounts

When you enter your User Control Panel you will find a new tab called Linked Accounts.

To add a link to a new account simple enter the Display Name and Password then click the Save Changes button. If you enter the password correctly, you will now see this account displayed in the Linked Accounts system.

It will also show you other accounts that have linked to yours. If you no longer wish this account to be linked to your account, you can unlink it from here.

Switching Accounts

You can switch accounts either from the Linked Accounts section of your User Control Panel or by using the global dropdown menu which you will find to the left of the search box.
